Tesla Model Y Performance becomes little bit more expensive to order in China
The Performance version of the Tesla Model Y compact crossover utility vehicle has become a little bit more expensive to order in China, thanks to the latest pricing tweaks by the American EV manufacturer. According to local media reports, Tesla has increased the price of the Made-in-China (MIC) Tesla Model Y by 10,000 CNY (US$1,500), marking 2.6 per cent jump in the price of the all-electric vehicle from 377,900 CNY to 387,900 CNY (US$60,150).
The Palo Alto, California-headquartered EV giant’s Chinese division has reportedly confirmed the price rise, and explained that the latest tweak was made due to higher costs of manufacturing. However, the prices of the two other versions of the EV have been left untouched.
While following the latest pricing tweaks, the MIC Tesla Model Y Performance is available (to be ordered) for 387,900 CNY ($60,150); the MIC Tesla Model Y Standard Range RWD and the MIC Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD continue to be available for 276,000 CNY ($42,800) and 347,900 CNY ($53,900), respectively.
It may be noted here that the price of the MIC Tesla Model Y Standard Range RWD is 291,840 CNY (US$45,200), but it falls to 276,000 CNY ($42,800) when we minus 15,840 CNY ($2,450) subsidy that is being provided by the government as part of its efforts to encourage the adoption of EVs.
The Tesla Model Y, the top of the line EV, is currently available only to be ordered as the manufacturer has yet to roll out in the Chinese market. It is expected to enter the market sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021. Initially, the EV’s deliveries were expected to commence in the third quarter of this year, but shortage of certain components (most probably worldwide shortage of semiconductor chips) caused delay in the deliveries of the eagerly-awaited EV.
MIC Tesla Model Y lineup in China is reportedly bigger than in the United States or Europe. It will be interesting to see whether the manufacturer re-launch the Standard Range (SR) version of the vehicle in the United States.
The MIC Tesla Model Y Standard Range RWD offers NEDC driving range of 525 km or 326 miles on a single charge, 0-100 km/h or 62 mph acceleration in 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 217 km/h or 135 mph. the MIC Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD offers NEDC driving range of 594 km or 369 miles on a single charge, 0-100 km/h or 62 mph acceleration in 5.0 seconds, with a top speed of 217 km/h or 135 mph. The Performance version offers slightly higher range of 566 km or 352 miles and better 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 3.7 seconds, with top speed pegged at 250 km/h or 155 mph.
