Google Now Launcher lands in Play Store for free download

Google Now Launcher lands in Play Store for free downloadOn Thursday, Google Now Launcher - which was thus far limited only to the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 Android devices - hit the Google Play Store for free download. The Play Store release of the Google Now Launcher implies that users of older Nexus devices will now be able to update the launcher.

The availability of Google Now Launcher in the Play Store coincides with the expanding availability of Google's latest Android OS 4.4.2 'Kitkat' release.

The new Google Now Launcher essentially brings Google Now - the company's customised search tool - to the forefront of user experience; thanks to the fact that its tiled menus can now be accessed with a swipe gesture from the homescreen. The Google Now Launcher also includes the addition of the always-on 'OK Google' phrase to enable users to initiate a voice search without touching the screen.

The functionality of Google Now has been continually expanded by Google ever since the launch of the customised search tool in 2012. As a result of the substantial increments made to Google Now, the tool now comprises a hands-on information service which learns from the users' daily routine, search results and preferences.

In addition, the service also provides details of weather conditions on the users' daily commute, tracks packages, provides boarding cards for select airlines, and sends alerts when updates are released for the users' favourite webpages.
