China under the Grip of Highly Contagious AIDS-like Disease
Infectious diseases’ rate is growing alarmingly in China and regarding which the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office IX conducted their 1st Infectious Disease Summit in Region 9 yesterday morning at Grand Astoria Hotel. The aim of the summit was to focus on the measures that should be taken to control the spread of the infectious diseases in the region to save people and the country from the diseases.
Regarding the situation, DOH 9 Regional Director Dr. Aristides Tan said, “The purpose of the summit is to create more awareness and provide more information to our colleagues on the latest trend on how to control infectious diseases. The theme for the summit is: Connecting partners on the fight against TB, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other infectious diseases”.
The summit was attended by hundreds of participants coming from the Zamboanga Peninsula region, including the municipal health officers and public health nurses as well. Discussions in Summit were done on the infectious diseases, upholding leprosy and dignity, national updates on soil transmitted helminthiasis, importance of diagnosing infectious diseases like TB, HIV/AIDS, malaria, dengue, filariasis, leprosy, food and waterborne diseases, and rabies, mosquito borne diseases update and new guidelines, sexually transmitted infection (STI), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome or AIDS, technical assistance provided by the Unites States Agency for International Development to improve the implementation of TB program and National Rabies Control and Prevention Program.
