Nintendo is set to launch its first proper mobile game - called 'Super Mario run' - on December 15, 2016.
The forthcoming Super Mario Run game - which will bring Nintendo's popular mustachioed plumber Mario to mobile devices - is an old-school side-scrolling adventure, marking Nintendo's first serious experiment with selling games sans hardware.
In announcing the upcoming launch of Super Mario run next Thursday, Nintendo said that the game is first being released for the iOS devices --- the iPhone and iPad. Later, an Android version of the game will also be rolled out.
The Super Mario Run game has no ads; and it feels remarkably similar to a Super Mario game. The free version of the game - in which the core of a Mario game is stripped to the basics - is essentially a demo; with a one-time fee of $10 required to be paid by gamers for unlocking the full game.
About the upcoming Super Mario Run game, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said: "I feel like Mario was what introduced millions of people to video games and interactive entertainment, and I think that Mario will continue to serve that role. And I think with Super Mario Run that's exactly what's going to happen."
