Business Insider has revealed in a recent report that tech biggie Apple has efforts underway to integrate limited augmented reality (AR) functionality into the iOS Camera app.
According to the report, based on the information shared by an unidentified source, a team of employees at Apple is working on a project which involves the integration of AR functionality into iPhone's Camera app.
The Apple employees working on the project reportedly include new hires from companies like Metaio and Flyby Media. For the project, Apple is apparently using the technologies it has acquired from its recent purchases of different AR companies.
Going by the details disclosed by the Business Insider source, the key objective behind Apple efforts to integrate AR functionality into iPhone's Camera app is to give consumers the ability to point the handset at a real-world object and have that object be recognized.
Moreover, with facial recognition feature already being included in the iOS Photos app, the Business Insider report has said that the AR implementation of Apple in the iOS Camera app might be capable of recognizing and manipulating people's faces.
