In a brief video published on Thursday, Japanese gaming biggie Nintendo unveiled its much-anticipated new home console --- a hybrid-handheld console which the company has formally named 'Nintendo Switch.'
The new console, which was officially announced by Nintendo more than a year back, was thus far referred to, in reports, by its codename - NX.
In accordance with the speculations of the gaming industry, the new Nintendo Switch gaming console is a kind of hybrid console, which has been advertised by the company as a handheld device that can be slotted into a dock for playing games on a TV screen.
In other words, the forthcoming Nintendo Switch will essentially be a console / handheld hybrid. It will be an HDTV-connected home console which gamers will be able to carry outside and use it on the go.
Describing the new Nintendo Switch hybrid-handheld console as "a neat concept" with an incredible product design, Alex Preston -- director of Hyper Light Drifter and chief of Heart Machine -- said: "I've always wanted a more unifying experience between their handheld and console divisions, if only to own fewer devices, so I hope this idea pans out and gets the support it needs to be a success. I'm excited!"
