24-year-old Texas based woman, Trista Joy Lathern was recently accused of faking breast cancer and instead spent $10,000 raised at a benefit to get breast augmentation surgery, as has been confirmed by the authorities. Arrested on November 4, the woman has been slapped with a charge of 'theft by deception', according to McLennan County Sheriff's investigator James Pack's court records statement.
To look like a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy, Trista had shaved her head, when all she wanted was breast implants with the aim to save her 7-month long marriage. Her husband, Willian Lathern, who filed for annulment the very day his wide was arrested, denied any knowledge of the fact that Trista did not have cancer, nor at the time of the wedding, which happened on April 18, neither when the benefit happened in August. All this has been detailed in the annulment petition.
"Maybe this incident will be a red flag so they will do a little more investigating to see where their money and support are going to,", Phyllis Hubbard, spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Waco. She hopes that donors will now be careful and aware.
Trista reportedly managed to raise money via over two dozen donors as well as several businesses. William is now seeking custody of their two children.
