With a routine quality inspection revealing a shock hazard to users of its mobile phone chargers, Nokia Monday announced the recall of as many as 14 million faulty chargers.
Saying that there have, thus far, been no reports of the flaw in the charger resulting in an untoward incident, Nokia specified that the recalled Nokia-branded chargers had been manufactured by a third-party supplier – China’s BYD Electronic Company, which will cover the entire cost of the recall.
Elaborating on the flaw in the chargers, Nokia mentioned the risk associated with the separation of the plastic casing surrounding the faulty chargers; thereby exposing the charger’s internal components that might lead to a shock hazard.
The recall announcement, which will affect Nokia phone users in a number of countries including the US and Canada, pertains to three separate models - AC-3E, AC-3U, and AC-4U. While the first two models have been manufactured between June 15 and August 9 this year; the third one has been manufactured between April 13 and October 25 this year.
Nokia has urged the affected users to stop using their faulty chargers, and get them replaced by making a direct call to Nokia at 1-888-Nokia2U. Alternatively, the affected users can go to Nokia’s dedicated charger exchange Website, enter the model and identification number of their charger; and get directed to the requisite steps for getting a replacement for the faulty charger.
