The world's first all-natural 'healthier choice' cane sugar, LoGiCane, has been launched in all the supermarkets of New Zealand, by Chelsea Sugar. The low glycemic index (GI) sugar, like other low GI foods, provides lasting energy and increasing satiety, as it gets digested, metabolized and absorbed at a fairly slow pace.
Developed by the Australian Research and Development firm Horizon Science, LoGiCane has been independently tested and certified by the Glycemic Index Foundation.
Since the all-natural LoGiCane does not compromise on either taste or texture, it clearly is a healthier choice for consumers. The arrival of the sugar in New Zealand is all the more significant as the cases of obesity and diabetes is on the rise in the country.
The availability of LoGiCane in New Zealand will enable the New Zealanders to achieve a notably low GI diet; using LoGiCane in precisely the same way as normal white refined sugar for all purposes - cooking, baking, and sprinkling on cereal.
Noting that the use of the healthier low GI sugar in place of regular sugar would spell considerable benefits for public health in New Zealand, Glycemic Index Foundation's Dr Alan Barclay said: "Low GI foods including LoGiCane produce a less pronounced rise in blood glucose and insulin levels. A low GI diet will reduce blood glucose levels in people with diabetes and also has benefits for weight management."
