Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia has said that health insurance should be made mandatory in the country. He has suggested the government to bring some rule for the organized sector employers so that they can provide health insurance cover to their employees.
Such steps would help to spread the reach of insurance products as well as give a boost to the insurance sector. Dr. Ahluwalia has said this while speaking at a Health Insurance Summit organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He has confirmed that group health insurance cover should be mandatory in all organizations and the employers should look out there issues seriously now.
Dr. Ahluwalia has also assured that government will provide all possible support for such plan. The program is feasible and very serious consideration would be made from the government’s side. Government is also thinking seriously to make it mandatory for the employers to get group insurance for their employees.
When he was asked about whether cashless facility will be provided by the private insurance companies or not, he has answered that it can’t be said from his side about the private insurance companies and their facilities.
