It's almost time for Intel and McAfee to show some fruitful results of 18 months of their joint efforts. Refusing to divulge any information about the product, all that is known as of now is that the combined hardware and software is most likely to be used to protect Internet-connected devices.
With the ever-growing risk of cyber threats, it looks like Companies have decided that it's high time they begin to curb the menace or at least take some necessary actions.
The $7.68 billion bid made by Intel to buy McAfee, if successful, would give rise to an unprecedented level of embedded security for all the networked devices ranging from smartphones to servers.
While the deal is being exemplified as one of the biggest deal in Intel's history, it is possible that this acquisition would also open up new sales opportunities.
"The current cybersecurity model isn't extensible across the proliferating spectrum of devices? The industry needed a standard shift; incremental improvements can't bridge the opportunity gap", says McAfee CEO Dave DeWalt.
The deal too is being followed by apprehensions by industry watchers, who feel that there is a probability that Intel and McAfee technologies might become too entwined and start excluding others.
Jonathan Chadwick, McAfee Inc.'s (MFE) Chief Financial Officer, is said to have been awarded with 97,500 performance-based stock units and 125,000 restricted stock units as part of his entire compensation package.
