Some light of hope which was recently seen by UK seemed to fade away as data from the Office for National Statics for the month of September emerged recently. Dipping sales figures were reported for the second consecutive month, especially in the retail goods market.
The reports have raised serious doubts and concerns over the expected recovery from the economic downturn, currently affecting the whole world.
As reported, sales for textile, clothing and footwear dipped by 0.5%, food sales figured revealed a 0.1% fall. While some economists are still positive that the third-quarter economy report will show a modest growth and possible exit from recession, there are others who are in grave doubts in light of recent revelations.
One positive development which has been reported, however, is that the non-specialized categories have seen a 0.5% rise in sales. Also, an upbeat speech by Bank of England Governor Mervyn King in Edinburgh on Tuesday also pointed to signs that the British economy is moving to a growth phase in the second half of the year.
While everyone has to wait for the official figures and a final verdict on UK's economic condition and whether the country would rank among the first ones to say goodbye to recession, people are hopeful.
