The members of Public Service Association have annoyed the Housing New Zealand, as the former keeps progressing with its industrial action against the Corporation.
Philippa Jones, General Manager of Housing New Zealand stated that the concentration of PSA members in Corporation is 40% only, but the disorderly industrial actions instigated by them would cause disturbances to their services to the Kiwis. He further added that they have been trying to negotiate with the PSA since last September and have also made a reasonable offer to the union members, equitable with the prevailing financial conditions.
Jones said, "Like most large organizations, Housing New Zealand believes in providing pay rises anchored to performance. We do not agree with providing automatic, across the board increases like those proposed by the PSA”.
She also added that their salaries are more than the public sector’s by 3% and that is even better than any other private Company. They have also told PSA that a wage bill comprising 2% of the budget has been passed that would benefit the employees eventually.
The members of the PSA were offered a $500 one-off lump sum payment to compensate with the changes, but they declined the same and are demanding a hike that would cost the corporation up to 7% in the first year.
As per PSA, the corporation has chopped down home maintenance budget by 21% and the later used only 10% of the $202m for the same, which would increase the work load on them.
