Apple irons out Safari 5’s performance issue; rolls out Safari 5.0.1

Apple irons out Safari 5’s performance issue; rolls out Safari 5.0.1In an attempt to iron out Safari 5's performance issues, Apple Thursday announced the roll out of an updated Safari 5.0.1, which is replete with fixes for a number of bugs; and enables the new Safari extension system - which boasts around 100 extensions with multihued icons - by default.

According to Ars, the early tests of the newly rolled-out Safari 5.0.1 indicate that Apple has been able to address most of the performance issues, even though there apparently are some quirks with a few extensions.

To test Safari 5.0.1, experts at Ars installed more than a dozen extensions, particularly selecting those which supposedly tax performance. Furthermore, Twitter, MLB, and several other extensions, which earlier caused performance problems, were also installed.

Even after the installation of a dozen of extensions - including those that add toolbars, buttons, status bars, and contextual menu options -, Safari reportedly kept chugging along without any performance issue.

As per Ars analysis, with a majority of Safari's performance issues having been addressed with the recent update, Apple now needs to make certain attempts in the direction of enhancing the extension system in general. Citing an example, while the loading of new extensions will bring up additional buttons and toolbars to the existing window, most of these will work only on newly opened windows.

With developers already having expressed the desire that Apple should have some more with buttons, it is likely that the option will be a part of a future update.
