Jetstar Declares Direct Flights between NZ and Aus

JetstarJetstar has declared to start its services between Auckland and Australia. The expansion will include its trans-Tasman operations and direct flights from Auckland to Melbourne and Cairns.

The direct flight service between Auckland and Melbourne will be initiating from December 13, 2010, while the weekly Cairns flights will start operating from April 12, 2011.

The Company also announced that it will execute 24 times weekly flights between Auckland and Wellington from October 31. An additional daily service between Wellington and Auckland on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays will also be introduced, that would enable the travellers to make a choice during peak travel times.

Auckland International Airport Ltd. has greeted the move by Jetstar warmly.

Simon Moutter, Auckland Airport's Chief Executive said, "These new Jetstar services fit extremely well with our strategy to drive more tourism into New Zealand".

By announcing its expansion, Jetstar has obstructed the way of Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand, who are the present the providers of air services to AIA.

Steven Fitzgerald, CEO of Wellington Airport expressed that Jetstar is quite famous in New Zealand and the Kiwi travelers would like to adopt the era of low fare travelling. She further added that the move would benefit the Wellingtonians and visitors to the capital.
