On Sunday, the 400 MB customer information database of Hell Pizza, a New Zealand pizza chain Company, was reported to be hacked by an unauthorized access, stealing information of more than 230,000 internet customers, including some celebrities, as DJ Mike Puru, comedian Dai Henwood, and Nandor Tanczos, the former Green Party MP.
The stolen data did not include credit card details, and as a result, the incident, fortunately, would not lead to financial damages. However, the security breached information contained full names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, and most importantly passwords, which would ultimately pose a huge privacy problem.
Despite the fact that the Company pays a considerable deal of attention and money on data security, this apparently could not save the Company’s website from the intruders.
The police have been directly notified as the data exposure was detected by the Company. During the investigation, Warren Powell, the Director of Hell Pizza, disclosed that he suspects a former employee to be responsible of the breach, although no accurate evidence regarding these allegations has been found. The Director also added that the Company takes this security matter “very seriously”.
Hell Pizza’s reputation in New Zealand, Australia, England and Ireland, where the Company operates its business, is now compromised.
