According to a recent report, the Auckland City Council is making an effort to gather a huge sum through breaches of traffic regulations and parking fees.
Mark Donnelly, a Councillor in Auckland City, disclosed that in the previous three years the administration has employed 30 extra traffic wardens.
They have been employed in order to charge the motorists for infringement of traffic regulations. The wardens were given instructions of gathering an additional $12 million through different fines collected during breach of traffic.
Mr. Donnelly described the administration's attempt as a "money grab".
He disclosed that due to the regulations the wardens are routinely looting local shopping centers.
Mr. Donnelly also disclosed that the move of the administration has invited severe criticism from the motorists who say that the parking tickets are being issued to them every hour of the day.
In the wee hours of the morning, the traffic wardens issue warrants to the people.
Mr. Donnelly disclosed that people have to pay the parking fees in town centers even on Sundays when more than half of the parking lot is empty.
The bus lane enforcement rule was started in Auckland an year ago. Since then the council has received a sum of $4.2 million due to this rule.
