Going be a Wednesday report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Sprint CEO Dan Hesse will introduce the carrier’s new 4G (fourth-generation) wireless smartphone – which most likely will be the first WiMAX-capable HTC-manufactured handset called the ‘Supersonic’ - during a CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, Nevada, next Tuesday.
Though Sprint has refrained from confirming the report, the company’s spokeswoman Michelle Leff Mermelstein told PC World: “Everyone's been speculating on that one. We have said publicly that we will have a 4G phone out this year, but we have not made any other official statements.”
However, citing unnamed ‘inside’ sources, the WSJ report further said that the HTC Supersonic handset will be introduced by the Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse during the ‘The Path to 4G’ all-day session on Tuesday; and will be the main focus of his keynote presentation on Wednesday.
According to reports, the unveiling of the HTC Supersonic next week, much ahead of the device’s rumored ‘late this year’ release, is bound to attract the customers looking for high-speed mobile broadband to sign long-term contracts.
Furthermore, as per the leaked details about the Supersonic, the phone appears to be a good one for Sprint to bet on – more so as it reportedly features a 4.3-inch screen; GPS; and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor running the HTC Sense UI over Android 2.1; among other things.
