Marking a deviation from its traditional move of basing its police cars on its Crown Victoria model, the Ford Motor Company recently unveiled its latest police car – the “Police Interceptor,” based on the same model as the Ford Taurus.
Being touted as the “ultimate cop car,” the Ford Police Interceptor will be released to law enforcement agencies in late 2011 as a 2012 model.
Going by the early looks of it, the new Police Interceptor apparently is the most intimidating cop car ever front on – it features push bars with integrated LED lights, and boasts a slick honeycomb grille huddled behind it.
To be available with two engine options, one featuring a V6 engine, and the other engine with an eco-boost, the Ford Police Interceptor will reportedly have better acceleration vis-à-vis the earlier models.
While both the new-model engines will likely deliver a 25 percent better fuel efficiency and less emission, as compared to the Crown Victoria models; the V6 engine will get 263 horsepower, and the eco-boost engine will get a notable 365 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque.
On the inside, the new cop car features voice-activated SYNC technology which has been programmed to operate the technology-backed LED lights and the sirens; and the Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) that alerts the driver that a vehicle is coming up in a nearby blind spot.
