Pfizer Inc. outside monitors made an announcement, concluding that the Phase 3 trial of its experimental drug called figitumumab in patients with previously treated advanced non-small cell lung cancer was highly susceptible to post that the drug was effective.
The drug giant also revealed that two Phase III studies of its advanced breast-cancer drug Sutent were unable to fulfill their primary endpoints.
The company, which had shut down a different lung cancer trial of figitumumab in December, posted that it is continuing to investigate that the antibody drug for treatment of prostate, breast and lung cancers as well as Ewing's sarcoma.
Pfizer is reportedly encountering patent expiration for top-selling drugs which is revealed to stymie its growth, including blockbuster cholesterol treatment Lipitor next year, and has strive to launch enough new products in the market to replace revenue lost to generic competition.
Sutent, chemically known as sunitinib, is currently permitted for the treatment of advanced kidney cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a cancer of the digestive system.
Pfizer reveals it disappointment with its results for Sutent, however, added that it was committed to the development program for the drug in other Phase III trials.
