Cancer survivor Kristyn Dawe would be a part of the Relay For Life at Mount Gambier this weekend.
The Mount Gambier mother would face her final medical check-up in Adelaide before she walks the relay.
Dawe saw her doctor in 2004 after she found a lump under her arm. It was breast cancer.
She said, "Just two days before Christmas that was hard to take."
She went to Adelaide for surgery a fortnight later to remove tumors, then began two years of regular treatment.
She added, “It was a lot of traveling for the first 12 months, which makes it hard. But my family was brilliant, my work was brilliant. During my five weeks of radiotherapy I would come home on weekends and be normal."
At the Blue Lake Sports Park at Mount Gambier, several people on Saturday would gather for a relay that would be of a 20-hour duration.
Relay For Life chairman Tim Cord-Udy said, "We're aiming to raise more than $100,000 for the South Australian Cancer Council to help fund the services that people in our region access every day when they travel to Adelaide for treatment."
