An NGO has informed that all tobacco products, including cigarettes, from June 1, will carry and new pictorial warning message, which is issued, by Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, an NGO said.
Binoy Matthew of Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI), an NGO said, "The ministry of health and family welfare notified the new pictorial health warnings on March 5, which will be implemented on all tobacco products from June 1. Since the news came just a few days before the No Smoking Day, we are very happy.”
The NGO stated that the pictorial warning message was put to test in seven states like Bihar, Orrisa, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh. The test found the message to be effective.
The NGO further informed that On May 31, last year, the pictorial warnings on tobacco products were enforced. However, these messages were found to be not that effective. According to the rules, every 12 months there should a rotation of warnings, it is following the rules that in June the new warnings which shows a picture of oral cancer, will be implemented
