A 52-year-old father of two whose arms were severely burnt in an electrical accident has become the first patient in Latin America to receive a double arm transplant. Gabriel Granados from Mexico had got both of his arms cut off just below the elbow when he received an electrical shock while giving instructions to a group of construction workers building a fence. In one of its kind surgery, it has now been ensured that Gabriel could again use the arms. He has received the arms of the 34 year old shooting victim.
Mr. Granados is very elated due to his new arms and even said that he had stated to have feelings in them. He said, "This is wonderful that after being without hands for some time, all of a sudden I see new hands".
Mr. Granados has now been discharged from the hospital and the doctors have said that he is recovering very well. Before undertaking this procedure on Mr. Granados, the doctors had to practice a lot on corpses so that there are no complications during the procedure. There are over 23 other patients that are waiting for arms transplant however only six can be done successfully.
