As per a study, which has been published in the Lancet, it has been revealed that new strains of malaria have been found which are resistant to the available treatments. Professor Francois Nosten and his team said that they have found the new strains of malaria on the border between Thailand and Burma.
It is not the first time when such news has come into notice, as some year back also researchers reported that they have come across malaria parasite which has developed resistance to current medications.
Francois said that prevalence of such strains is quite prevalent in this part of the world. However, most concerning part of the story is that they do not have other medications with which malaria can be treated. It will take another couple of years to develop new treatment and there is not enough time to wait for such kind of development.
"So the immediate solution will be to try to contain the resistance and eliminate malaria as much as we can in as many parts of the world where we can do it, to reduce the impact and maybe buy some time", said Francois.
It is very important to make sure that they get enough time to develop the disease as it will take another 10 years to develop a new treatment. Other experts told that the main ingredient used in the medicines of marlin is extracted from a tree known as sweet wormwood.
The researchers from the RMIT University in Melbourne, was of the view that they have been working on a concept so that they can develop anti-malaria drug. Ian Macreadie, who is an Associate Professor at the RMIT University, was of the view that they are quite close to developing the drug.
