Need To Find Effective Treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Bowel-DiseaseThe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS) often confuse the people as the acronyms of the two sounds alike. However, the meaning of the two is completely different and the experience is awful.

The symptoms of the two are alike but they both take dreadful toll over the health of patients. The IBD is medically described as a group of chronic inflammatory diseases. In this particular condition, the body’s immune system unusually attacks its own gastrointestinal tract, which leads to a number of bowel diseases.

The IBS is different from IBD, as it affects those who have previously been affected by sexual abuse, life tragedy, emotional abuse and other emotional traumas. Early adverse activities of life are believed to be the main cause behind the disorder.

Previously a large number of studies have been carried over the medications of IBS and it has been found that a few are really good in treating the IBS. Cramping and diarrhea or constipation is some of the common health problems faced by patients suffering with IBS.

A write-up published in the American Journal of Medicine highlighted that almost all the IBS medications have adverse impact over the health of patients. Dr. Mark Pimentel from the Gastrointestinal Motility Program was reported as saying, “For the millions of patients who suffer from IBS, effective treatment options have been very scarce… a lot of these drugs have side effects… rifaximin and lubiprostone have the lowest level of harmful side effects”.

The researchers would be required to conduct further studies over the therapies available for the treatment of IBS so that a treatment which has lowest side effects could be prescribed to the patients. However, researchers also need scientific proof to prove that certain medication has lower side effects.
