As per a new research, which has been conducted by more than 20 international institutions, it has been confirmed that endometriosis is linked with clear-cell ovarian cancer and endometrioid ovarian cancer.
Previous researches have claimed about the link, but it is the first research, which has established the fact that endometriosis, one of the reasons for infertility is linked with both the cancers.
In order to reach at the above conclusion, the study researchers from 20 international research centers including among Queensland Institute of Medical Research evaluated 13 previous studies and also conducted a survey of more than 23, 000 women.
The study researchers found that women, who have endometriosis condition, are at double risk than women without the condition to be diagnosed with endometrioid ovarian cancer. The risk increases by triple fold if it comes to developing clear-cell ovarian cancer.
The study researchers explained that endometriosis is a condition in which tissues surrounding the uterus start growing on the outer walls of the ovaries, fallopian tubes among other nearby structures. This causes swelling, severe abdominal pain and bleeding.
If reports are to be believed then there are 6% women in Australia who have been suffering from it. Cancer Council Australia CEO Ian Olver told that he would not be surprised if the figure turns out to be true.
One of the main reasons for it is that there is screening test available for ovarian cancer. It is a high time now that the government should take an action as 950 Australian women have already lost their lives in 2010.
Abdominal pain is not bearable, said Ms Windsor, who has been diagnosed with early stage cancer. She said, "I'm very conscientious at work and if anybody else told me they had these symptoms then I would have got the doctor to check them out but because it was me, I thought everything would go away”.
