Two Painkiller Drugs Narrowly Missed Rejection

PainkillerIn has been recently revealed in a report that two painkillers among the four that consist of dextropropoxyphene, have narrowly escaped being cancelled by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Gods also known as ARTG.

The regulatory had decided last year, that there is need for cancelling 4 products, that don’t have enough information on the sort of efficiency and safety the drugs have. The names of these brands are Paradex, Doloxene, Capadex and Di-Gestic. This was to take place in the month of March.

There was an appeal done by these brands of medicines to Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The regulatory decided that these two drugs, Doloxene and Di-Gesic can remain in the stores, till the time there has been a hearing conducted by the ATT. They need to wait for the further order of the ATT, to whether remove the drug form the lien or keep it intact.

It was revealed by the National Prescribing Service that the major risks that are linked with dextropropoxyphene in the drugs is that it has a negative impact on the activities of the heart of the person. It might lead to irregularity in the rhythms of the heart, even at the recommended doses of the drug.

“Given the limited benefit of pain relievers containing dextropropoxyphene, the risks associated with their use, and the fact that we also know dextropropoxyphene can cause dependency, NPS agrees with the TGA’s decision to cancel the four pain relief medicines containing this active ingredient”, said CEO of the NPS, Dr. Lynn Weekes.

There is need for further research to be done on the matter before it can be revealed whether the drug is good for use or not.
