Bacterial Infection Kills University Student

MichiganAs per recent reports, it has been revealed that the health officials in Ingham County are yet to determine the cause of death of a 19-year-old Michigan State University student. It is presumed that the student might have died from a bacterial infection. However, nothing can be said as of now and everything will get clear when investigation reports come out.

Carly Glynn is said to have battled hard to survive in a Lansing hospital, but could not survive. University spokesman Kent Cassella said that though medical reports have not come out, they think Clary had contracted meningococcal disease.

The university is taking all the needed precautions and is trying to know each and every person who might have had close contact with Clary. Meningococcal disease is said to be the one which is quite similar to flu and its symptoms also match with flu illness. Inflammation and swelling of body parts are some of the common symptoms of the disease.

Health experts said that though the disease is not communicable, it can spread through common cold and flu. A vaccine is available for meningococcal disease, but it does not cover all of its types. Doctors have advised that if fever does not lowers after few days and one experiences inflammation in membranes, then one should consult a GP at earliest.

Meanwhile, students who were with Carly are advised to get their checkups done. The university has also opened a helpline where one can call and get expert’s advice.

The university spokesperson said that they have been coming cases where students are telling them they have received vaccine or their immune system is healthy enough to bear the disease. Both the things would not work as meningococcal disease is quite a strong bacterial infection.
