Government in the Line of Fire over NSW Health Reports

Government in the Line of Fire over NSW Health ReportsAs per recent reports, the NSW Government is apparently heading towards a tough time ahead and the major cause of concern going against the government is that it has not been able to release a proper report regarding the issues prevailing in the computer system that operates the entire network of emergency departments all over the state.

The report, which was compiled by consultants Deloitte, was made public through Fairfax Media as per regulations related to the freedom-of-information. It further claims that the computer system, dubbed FirstNet, persistently forces the hospital staff to shell out more than needed time on processing data entry. In addition, it has been claimed that it can result in an immense and chronic underfunding.

Employees are apparently not being provided with adequately information regarding the manner in which the software is used, and the report has even claimed that it fails on providing a satisfactory record of care being provided to patients.

The report has also highlighted that though there do exist fair amount of exceptions, FirstNet reporting is, on a broader sense, derisory for effectual ascendancy of the procedure. But still, on the other hand, the so-called inconsistency and inefficiency of the service has not resulted in any harm to patients as of now.

While expressing its belief regarding the flaws existing in the operation of computer system, it was added by the NSW Opposition that the Government had already got the independent statement earlier in August 2011 but it is yet to come up with any kind of reinforcement or amendments to safeguard the safety of patients.

In this regard, Dr. Andrew McDonald, the opposition spokesperson for health, said: "The health minister (Jillian Skinner) has had a report warning her that patient care is at risk following problems with the ... computer system for six months and has done nothing about it".
