Carbon Monoxide Leakage Causing Concerns

LeakageIt has been reported that the legislatures of West Virginia are planning to go ahead to make it compulsory for the hotels to place carbon monoxide detectors in the area where guests or people sleep. The decision of making the carbon monoxide detectors mandatory came after a man succumbed to death because of the presence of carbon monoxide in the South Charleston hotel’s room, where he was staying.

The deceased has been identified as William Moran, who was just 44 when he succumbed to death. In investigation over the death of William Moran, it has been found that during his stay at the hotel, carbon monoxide leaked from the pipelines.

According to the investigators, carbon monoxide leaked from exhaust pipe of the indoor pool heater. It has further been unveiled that the exhaust system was installed without taking the permission.

As per the current rules and laws, it is not compulsory for the hotels to have carbon monoxide detectors. However, the recent incidence has pushed the legislators to make it compulsory for the hotels.

A bill has been introduced by the Delegate Tiffany Lawrence, D-Jefferson to the House of Delegates, which deals with the cases of carbon monoxide leak. While placing the pill, Lawrence said, “As we know, carbon monoxide is a silent killer, and there are leaks that go undetected. If you're exposed to that, it can cause internal damage, respiratory damage, and it can kill. So this is a mechanism to save lives”.

In the past few years, many cases of carbon monoxide leakage are turning up which have caused concern to the governing bodies. It is now being pressed that efforts should be made towards making the carbon monoxide detector compulsory in the hotels and homes.
