The Doctors in UK are demanding changes in their pension format, for which they have even started threatening the concerned authorities. Recent reports have confirmed that the doctors have threatened of slashing surgeries' opening times if they do not get to see any changes in their pensions early.
The whole protest of the doctors is actually against the new UK government's plan which, according to the doctors, will force every single doctor to pay an additional £2400 yearly from their earnings, confirmed the British Medical Association.
The authority has also confirmed that many of its members are ready to take industrial action against the plan to get their purpose served soon.
Union Chief Dr. Brian Keighley's comments showed the doubtful nature of the strike but yes, the official has strictly said that they can consider the work-to-rule with the reduced surgery opening times option.
Regarding the situation, BMA Scotland Chairman cleared in his statement that the plan from the government says that every doctor has to pay more than present into their pensions while having their eventual payments cut.
"Doctors are very reluctant to take any kind of action that would impinge on patient services. What we are going to do in the early days of the New Year will be to take a snapshot of opinion across doctors and the profession", Dr. Keighley said.
Also, the doctor further talked about their plans of the industrial action which they think the officials might consider seriously, such as doctors working reduced weekend-style services on weekdays.
On an average, Scotland has 5000 GPs who together earn approximately £80,000. The Government plans will lessen the figures to a great extent as their pension contribution would also rise from 6.5% of their salary to 9.9%.
