Currently, there are about 150,000 applications adorning Apple's App Store, but there are some which definitely rule the charts. For most buyers, App Store's Top 25 list is the way to determine which applications to download.

To make it to the list is not easy, as the applications have to be popular enough to be promoted by mainstream media, marketing, word-of-mouth and social media, which increases downloads, thereby ensuring the popularity of the app.

"The Top 25 list is the thing that drives distribution. Other apps just don't get the exposure", said Mobclix founder Krishna Subramanian.

But the list sometimes manages to exclude some very good applications which no one seems to notice, and 6 of these are The Extraordinaires, Preschool Adventure, i. TV, HotelPad, What to Expect and SBSettings.

Each of these applications is useful and interesting, but the fact that some of the more popular counterparts grab all the limelight, these seem to be lagging behind.
