After one week’s expulsion for Amazon, its site on Saturday was promoting the book at the top of the front page as Priceless: The Myth of Fair Value (and How to Take Advantage of It). Macmillan and other publishers confront Amazon’s mission to sell most e-books for $9.99. Presently, among the rumors about the e-book pricing, it’s only Amazon that is trying to keep the price lesser. Meanwhile the publishers are not yet able to set prices, but Macmillan prefers to sell the books at lower or sometimes similar rates.
Macmillan was said to adopt an “agency” or commission model. In this model, it sets the rate; e-trailers get a commission and set higher pricing for new books and best sellers by the beginning of March. Amazon reacted to this by eliminating all Macmillan from its print and Kindle stores. But contrarily Amazon within a few days agreed upon the plans to follow the new pricing scheme.
About the prices, 28 % below the list price, Sarah’s Key is $9.99 for Kindle and for BN. com. The e-book which can be bought in Adobe PDF, eReader formats and Mobipocket, are selling for list price of $13.95 at Macmillan. com. Some e-books are expected to wrap up at lower prices but new releases will probably be $12.95 and $14.95. If publishers go well with agency model and start scaling as print books shift in price or release, it will keep on comforting readers thereby supporting the emerging e-book sector
