Regular exercising is already known to boost stamina as well as physical strength but findings of a latest study have also applauded the physical activities for improving the mental health as well, especially to avoid the risk of depression.
Before suggesting the findings, the US experts have assessed more than 50,000 women and observed that subjects who have attempted to exercise on regular basis were less likely to experience frightening episodes of depression, around 20%, as compared to rest counterpart that had exercised rarely or never.
Besides applauding exercising, the exerts have also accused television for pushing women to suffer depression , around 13%, in case they enjoy watching TV for three hours or more, per day. Accordingly, the study authors have concluded that elderly women who prefer to exercise daily and spend less time with television significantly reduce their risk to develop depression.
An expert from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Michel Lucas, who led the study has explained the findings and highlighted the increased levels of physical activity has tremendous ability to lower the risk of depression.
"Previous studies have suggested that physical activity is associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms", added a student of geriatric medicine at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, Gillian Mead, although, had no involvement in the study.
Experts have explained that more physical activity is observed to improve the sense of self esteem as well as sense of control among the women along with levels of endorphins in their blood. However, the study authors not succeeded to prove directly that watching excessive television is responsible to cause depression. The American Journal of Epidemiology has published the findings. Prior to this, a number of studies have also applauded physical activities for boosting mental health.
