Google aims at getting techno-chic by launching fashion designs inspired by the Internet giant.
Recently, googlestore. com put on sale an "old-fashioned magnifying glass pendant" at $200, along with a 300-dollar knit scarf in the firm's trademark colors and "peace" T-shirts for 85 dollars each.
All the products put on sale were creation of budding designers who last year were urged to create "one-of-a-kind" items inspired in some way by Google, whether it is the firm's colors, technology or mission.
An annual fund-raising event by fashion magazine Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), helped in the creation of the designs.
In a blog post, Google product marketing manager Michaela Prescott said while referring to the iGoogle personalized homepage that users can manipulate or design to their liking, "Last October, we transformed 10 of the finalists' designs into iGoogle Artists themes. While we loved seeing fashion meet iGoogle, we wanted to see these pieces in person and wear them."
Prescott continued that the products, which would be available only for a limited time, have been created for the broader audience. It will at Vogue/CFDA fund, where the proceeds will go for nascent designers.
The creator of the sterling silver magnifying glass pendant, Waris Ahulwalia, said his inspiration was search, which is at the heart of everything Google does.
In order to represent the "Googol" number on which the search engine's name is based, he engraved a "1" into the clasp of the pendant chain of 100 zero-shaped links.
