The US researchers have called for help from their Kiwi counterparts in devising a technique to combat the strains of flu in the country.
The expertise of Kiwi scientists has helped them win a $7 million contract from the US. It has been reported that an extensive study will be held over the flu activity in the past few years in Auckland. The study is expected to begin in 2012.
The study will be named as Shivers project. The aim of it will be to understand as to how flu impacts life differently on everybody. It is hoped that the findings of the study would help in preventing death cases occurring due to flu.
A special team of researchers will be formed, which will consist of researchers from the Otago and Auckland universities. Kiwi researchers are being trusted by the US researchers as they were successful in finding cure for swine flu and bird flu.
While understanding the activities of the flu, the researchers will also be looking for the number of New Zealanders lethally affected by the flu. Health Minister Tony Ryall is of the opinion that the study would bring a revolution in the way flu is treated.
