Agencies Failing In Monitoring Animal Antibiotic and Flu, Says ReportIn a report compiled by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the US health agencies have been alleged of not taking the issue of use of antibiotics in animals seriously. The use of antibiotics has no doubt saved lives of many but the same antibiotics have put the health of human in danger, says report.

Recently, it has been found that the antibiotics in animals give birth to certain bacteria which are threatening for humans. The GAO works as an investigator for the Congress. While compiling the report, it found that the Food and Administration of the US was not complying its duty as it was poorly monitoring the antibiotics.

It has been revealed that the FDA although do collect data to monitor the antibiotics, it doesn’t considers what impact does drugs have over those near to animals. The FDA has revealed that in 2009 about 29 million pounds of antibiotic was consumed by the live stocks of the US.

The Agriculture Department is said to have failed in monitoring the spread of virus coming from animals which may include bird flu and swine flu. According to the report, the Agriculture Department fails to provide the information regarding actual scenario of these flues in the country.
