To target the financial waste taking place in the public health system a campaign has been launched by the Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ).
According to the AMAQ president Dr Mason Stevenson every year, about $4 billion is wasted because of replication and administrative faults.
For avoiding this wastage and starting a health government AMA Queensland is embarking on a campaign to encourage the Rudd Government to taker steps urgently.
For decreasing the need for several appointments and tests the health sector should share patients’ information.
Stevenson added that, "Avoid the duplication of tests that cost tens of millions of dollars every year in Queensland alone. Avoid the duplication of appointments with doctors, both GPs and specialists. We arrive at a diagnosis quicker - we can start treatment earlier - patients are much better off and the health system will be much better off."
Further request has been put forward for not employing bureaucrats. Various lives could be saved if inefficiency and bureaucracy in hospitals were reduced.
The State Opposition Leader Jean-Paul Langbroek agrees with the AMAQ's position.
