Sewerage Pollution Impede Fishing in Waimakariri River

Sewerage PollutionAccording to reports, Dr Alistair Humphrey, Canterbury's, Chief Medical Health Officer, recently claimed that due to the heavy rain and snowfall, Waimakariri River certainly became high alerted against the sewage contamination risk.

However, he continued to explain that sate's delicate sewerage infrastructure, was one of the chief reasons behind the increased lake pollution, predominantly at Kaiapoi and Pines Beach.

Moreover, he warned all the fishing lovers and the regions fishermen that after 48 hours of heavy rain or snow, they should not visit any of the polluted lake area, because the shifted pollutants, were supposed to cause many health problems.

On the other hand, while sharing his views about the sewerage issue, Dr. Alistair Humphrey, Canterbury Medical Officer, commented, "It is important that local whitebaiters heed warnings against fishing after sewage discharges and the recreational users of the waterways in the Waimakariri district should refer to this website prior to undertaking fishing and other recreational activities".

In the meantime, with the aim of spreading quick awareness about the raised problem, the region, District Council website, www. waimakariri. govt. nz, too accounted that before going for fishing, the residents were requested to log in to the website, so that they can get all the updated information about the upcoming suggestions from the health experts.
