Be ready to miss out on jobs and being overlooked when it comes to promotions if you are overweight. According to a British weight-loss organization overweight people often face office discrimination.
Slimming World said on its website that overweight people earn a lower salary and are four times more likely to suffer bullying about their weight and have six times more chances of being sidelined for a promotion.
Slimming World Head of Nutrition and Research Jacquie Lavin said, "It's unfortunate that only 16 per cent of people who are obese feel supported by their work colleagues in their efforts to lose weight and disappointing that one in four say they have suffered negative comments about their weight while at work.”
Pollsters YouGov conducted a survey on more than 2,000 British adults who were over 18 years of age and 227 of these were employers.
Participants were asked for their comments on their attitudes toward obesity in the workplace.
The survey established that people with a weight category of BMI 40+ had four times more chances to feel under confident and dreaded applying for a new job. The discrimination was found more in male employers.
So next time you apply for a new job make sure you are in shape.
