Surge Recorded in the Number of "Part-Time" Smokers

About 50% of the population of America currently lives in places where there is a ban on smoking in workplaces, bars and restaurants, and over 70% of the people do not allow smoking in their homes, which includes nearly half of the current smokes.

Also, taxes have managed to push the cost of cigarettes at their highest ever level, with a pack costing a whopping $10 in New York City.

All these factors have come together to give rise to a new breed of smokers, in addition to making current smokers change their smoking habits, For example, there is now a growing number of people who secretly smoke, not because they are addicted to nicotine, but because it provides them with psychological and emotional satisfaction.

Despite the fact that the number of American adults who smoke has been pulled down by about 20% over the recent few years, those who are still smoking are lighting up fewer cigarettes than they used too. Also, majority of smokers, some 25% that is, do not smoke everyday or are "part-time smokers".

According to an American study which was recently conducted, about 50% of the current smokers either do not smoke everyday or smoke fewer than 6 cigarettes each day.
