State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Pacoima, is preparing to introduce Senate Bill 26 in the California Legislature in the recent future in order to criminalize cell phones in prison.
In case the potential bill is passed, a prisoner found using a cell phone in could lose credit for the time they served, and a prisoner who makes use of a cell phone to support a crime could be slapped with additional jail-term of up to five years.
The offender could also be slapped with a fine of up to $5,000. Any prison employee or visitor found involved in smuggling a cell phone to a prisoner will also have to face severe consequences.
The statement about the bill was made just a day after news that a cell was confiscated from infamous killer Charles Manson for a second time in less than two years.
Charles Manson is serving a life sentence at Corcoran State Prison. He was slapped with jail-term for life time for the disgraceful 1969 killings of director Roman Polanski's pregnant wife actress Sharon Tate, and six others in Los Angeles.
Earlier in September, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill which would have fined people smuggling cell phones to prisoners $5,000.
