75% of the Pregnant Women in UK Are missing the Necessary Flu Jab

flu-jabIn a report the health Secretary has admitted that almost 75% of the pregnant women across the country are missing the very important flu vaccine.

The official figure shows that only 27% of the women have received the vaccine this season. However, according to Mr. Andrew Lansley, the number is more than double as compared to last year's figure which was merely 13%.

But the majority of them are going without the vaccine which necessary for both the mother and the newborn.

Critics blamed the lack of proper campaign to have created the confusion among these to-be-mothers. The Department has said that pregnant women included into the vaccination programme only last year and lack of proper advertisement has made them confused whether they are eligible for the vaccination at an NHS Centre or not.

Supporting the reasons, Labour Health Spokesman Mr. John Healey said in a letter to Mr Lansley that the confusion over who comes under the "at-risk" group and who does not made the whole thing jeopardised.

Mr. Lansley also said, "GPs have been inviting those in at-risk groups to receive the flu vaccine since October and the lack of an advertising campaign this year has had no discernible impact on the uptake of flu vaccine."

The flu has already claimed 112 lives in this winter and swine flu is blamed for most of them. And the senior doctors blamed the NHS for the mess.
