Scientists identify brain cells that can send signals to stop over-eating

A team of scientists have said that they have identified a brain cell that stops over-eating and might lead to the development of new anti-obesity treatments.

They recorded that switching off the satiety neurons caused mice in the experiment to eat more and double their weight in three weeks. However, when the function of the cells was restored, the mice reduced the amount of food by around 25 per cent. The cells were identified in a small brain region called the paraventricular nucleus that is already known to send and receive signals related to appetite and food.
